Dashboard Hibachi review in Seven Days

Meant to post this months ago, but somehow didn't. In case you missed it, Matt Bushlow wrote a nice review of the Rorschach Dress Pattern and Guzen Type EPs for Seven Days. Among other things, he wrote, "... there’s good news for farm fans: Kettler’s apples haven’t fallen far from the tree ... Several (songs) stand side-by-side with (farm's) best work." He described "Stars Are Cold" as "stark, chilly and somehow — like much of Kettler’s music — very northern," and called "The Lions Were Hungry" "wistful, like a love song of regret. And it works."

Belated thanks, Matt, for a generous review.

Monkey House show with Mouthbreather and Nuda Veritas

The second show with Mouthbreather and Nuda Veritas is at the Monkey House this Saturday night at 9 p.m.

An evening of loops, unicorn hunting, samples, folk songs, improvised noir moodiness, and bar-top meditation. It will be more fun than drunk-dialing your friends. Hope to see you there.

Practice, practice

Brennan Mangan will be helping me out at the upcoming shows at Charlie O's in Montpelier (Fri, July 27) and the Monkey House in Winooski (Sat, Aug 18). We've been getting together in recent weeks, preparing to take these songs live.

More about Brennan: plays drums with Paper Castles and Golden Claws; a great cook; has a gorgeous shrine to vinyl music in his living room; and he's a guitar finisher/builder. Between all of that and the fact that he can play any instrument you put in his hands better than most people who dedicate their time to just one, I can't say enough good about him. So, thanks for playing, Brennan. And thanks to Sarah for letting me invade their home.

Here's a video I shot during our last practice. I'm a little sloppy and too loud - but it's coming together. Really. Can't wait for the shows. The song's a new one called Old Bill.

First show at Charlie O's with Mouthbreather and Nuda Veritas

Well, Dashboard Hibachi is finally leaving my back room and heading to the World Famous Charlie O's in Montpelier. Friday, July 27.

I'm looking forward to playing some of these songs (and some brand new ones) live. I've got multi-instrumentalist wunderkind, Brennan Mangan, helping me out on keyboards and more.

Playing with my good friends Mouthbreather (fellow Farm member Ben Maddox and Andy Frappier) and Nuda Veritas (Rebecca Kopycinski).

No cover charge. Show starts at 10 p.m.

So.... now it's time to find out how much Charlie O's has changed since I was a kid. There were rumors...
